AUBC rowers Chris Morgan, Peta White and Renee Chatterton have been putting in their last fortnight of full training, before the taper begins for the 2011 Rowing World Championships begin in Bled, Slovenia on August 28th.
Morgan aka Walker is back in the mens quad scull, after winning the coxed pair at last year's world champs in New Zealand, and dominant displays closer to home this year at the SA & NSW state championships. He is joined by Man of the Murray James McRae, who won the President's Cup for South Australia at the recent National regatta for the first time in 23 years. Dan Noonan, stroke of the victorious NSW Kings Cup crew, and the versatile Karsten Forsterling of Victoria round out the crew. The same crew, with Beijing gold medallist David Crawshay in at that time instead of Walker, took bronze at last year's worlds. This season with the crew change, they have continued to show they are strong contenders, with a third place in the Henley Royal Regatta, London, followed by bronze a week later at Lucerne, Switzerland, in the 3rd of the 3 World Cup events. Peta White and Renee Chatterton have both been selected in the AUS open, straight from their second Under 23 Rowing World Champs, where they both placed fourth, in the womens coxless four and coxless pair respectively. They will race in the womens coxless four, along with Kate Hornsey and Pauline Frasca of Mercantile, Victoria. Peta White's selection came at the last minute. The young Olympia Aldersey, who paired with Renee at the U23 worlds, was originally named in the crew, and then changed out by Rowing Australia. We wish all crews the best of luck in Bled.
