|Blacks back on top|
School leavers James Virgin, Lex Beasley, Richard Parletta and Freddy Smyth took their first state title, as did Alex Dawson, Elise Donovan and Alex Carter, graduates of AUBC's inaugural New Recruits program.
It wasn't all smooth sailing - Georgie Mills broke an oar on the start line & had to be ferried a replacement, with which she duly won the Lightweight Womens Single Scull final. AUBC athletes went on to win 6 of the 9 lightweight events.
Now three quarters through the season, the regatta left AUBC at the top of both the SA mens & womens premiership tables, in the box seat to take the flags, both for the first time in several years.
After the racing on Sunday the club was hosted by the Game family for what is now the annual "Game Day" event (photos in the gallery attached to this news item). About 40-50 of the club enjoyed backyard cricket, tug of war, boat races, beer frisby and a bench press competition (which Alex Game, a non-rower, actually smashed us all in). All of this while enjoying the spoils of a spit roasted lamb and pork and relaxing in the pool. A big thankyou to the Games for hosting us, I hope we can go back next year despite the fact that Jim Virgin managed to run into the world's biggest window and smash it!
Go the Blacks!
